Book - "Marley and Me"

Dear Miss Paws:

I’ve heard that there is a new book about a dog that is so funny it has been on the best seller lists. Do you know what the name of it is and have you read it?

A. Actually, I do. The name of the book is, “Marley and Me”, and is a true story written by John Grogan who is a columnist at the Philadelphia Inquirer. I have the book because it was a gift on my birthday. It’s a delightful read and for 3/4th of the book it is laugh-out-loud, tears-running-down-your-face funny. The last three chapters are reading-while-crying-through-your-tears sad. The title is somewhat of a misnomer, in that the book is about a Labrador Retriever who weighed 97 pounds and the family who loved and struggled with him, not just Mr. Grogan. The subtitle is, “Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog.” No matter what you’ve been through with a rowdy dog, it can’t have been any worse than what this dog did. He also taught this family what love and loyalty are all about. They got him when they were first married and through good times and bad, through the births of their children, and through hilarious incidents, he was always there. As Mr. Grogan writes, “In many ways Marley held them together and instinctively knew when they needed comforting.” He also has wonderful words to say about pet lovers. It’s worth asking for at your library. You won’t be sorry.
